I think that this is an amazing piece, you truly made this your own as in creating it the way you wanted even if it is a test run I honestly think this well done. You captured the balrog well, the armor, the animal features as in snout and your wings are very detailed which i like also because of there span and width. but honestly what i think or anyone else thinks does not matter you are happy with your piece and thats what matters.
Love the wing detailing! And the pretty pretty armor!
This part really doesn't matter cause it's just my opinion and I love the balrog none the less. Some small things bothering me...I stress small cause they are around the face; The eye seems to be looking up but with the way the body is placed my brain says it should be facing forward, the 'bangs' seem too fluffy, and the horns are inconsistent. That horn thing isn't easy to explain but when I see horns in nature they all have the same texture: each ram horn is segmented with lots of ripples and cracks, they don't have 1 smooth horn and one rippled horn...so to me, whether you do 1 set or 5 all the horns should have the same texture.
lol, and here I thought your reasoning for the horns would be something like: they were of the first world so the rules could have been different...Actually, I do need to read the Silmirilian to see their backstory Anyways, it's really more of my preference, and be as it's your art my opinion is of little consequence.
The eye thing I'd have to show you, I think I'm just interpreting that area wrong
I adore the detail and the colours you used for the picture. And of course, always your awesome armor designs!
(Apologises for the belated comment. Finally catching up with myself on dA)

Not too sure what you mean by the eye dealio.
Either way, this fellow was a test, I already know what I want to do next time. ;D
